President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan praised the friendly match between Konyaspor and the Palestine national team, played on 30 September 2026, in a social media post. The match, which ended 2-2, was played in front of a 42,000-strong crowd in Konya.
In a post on X, Erdoğan stated: "Bu akşam Konya'mızda, Konyaspor'la Filistin Milli Futbol Takımı'nın yaptığı dostluk maçı, ülkelerimiz arasındaki kardeşliği, dayanışmayı, gönül birlikteliğini gözler önüne seren müstesna bir örnek olmuştur." He added, "42 BİN KİŞİLİK STADIMIZI DOLDURAN KONYALI KARDEŞLERİME TEŞEKKÜR EDİYORUM," highlighting the support from the stands. The President sent greetings to the Palestinian footballers and people who came to Turkey and reaffirmed that Turkey will continue to stand with its Palestinian and Gazan brothers and sisters.
The special event provided a different focus for Konyaspor, who are handling a tough period in the Süper Lig. The team currently sits 15th in the league with 4 points from 6 matches, with a recent run of one win, two draws, and two losses in their last five official games.
